DS Smith has attained a number of different third party certifications to demonstrate our commitment to compliance in the pharmaceutical industry. We are always looking to achieve more certifications and advance best practice where possible.

Below is information on some of the major ones to be aware of.

ISO 9001 – Quality Management System

DS Smith works to consistently provide products and systems that meet multiple requirements - from both customer and regulatory perspective.  By implementing a Quality Management System that adheres to ISO 9001 we can confidently guarantee that our operations are founded on the highest standards of quality management, including a strong customer focus and working towards continuous improvement.  This is particularly important when working with the pharmaceutical industry, as it is vital instances of contamination or error are prevented to protect patients from purchasing products that are ineffective or even dangerous.

ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System

As a producer of corrugated packaging, environmental protection is at the core of DS Smith’s activities. We are active in driving change in the pharmaceutical market towards more environmentally friendly solutions. The international standard ISO 14001 helps us in our own production facilities to reduce waste, improve resource efficiency and drive down costs, which in turn we can replicate with our customers and their operations.

OHSAS 18001 – Occupational Health and Safety

DS Smith places huge importance on ensuring the health and safety of our employees.  Part of our strategy for leading the industry in this area is the implementation of best in class management systems, as defined by the international standard OHSAS 18001.  We have large production sites, where we are constantly assessing workplace hazards and implementing preventative measures as part of our day-to-day operations.
