DS Smith celebrate 4evergreen circularity award win for innovative Recyclability Evaluation Service (RES)
LONDON (UK), Thursday 20th November 2025 – DS Smith, an International Paper company and global leader in sustainable and fibre-based packaging, celebrate winning an 4evergreen Award 2025 for their innovative Recyclability Evaluation Service (RES).
We received our nominated within the Category for Products or Services Enabling Enhanced Recycling Processes and a Circularity Success Stories Award for 2025.
Our DS Smith Recyclability Evaluation Service (RES) is for customers who are producing, specifying, or developing fibre-based packaging, and the service offers a detailed assessment and breakdown of a fibre-based packaging solution’s recyclability - alongside guidance on how to improve recycling credentials in a standard European recycling facility or paper mill.
The DS Smith RES team of experts test each packaging solution to assess its suitability for recycling within a European paper mill using the industry standard CEPI Recycling Test Methodology (V3) and the 4evergreen Recyclability Evaluation Protocol. Our RES Lab-based testing is intended to support our customers and businesses in decreasing their fees under new or imminent legislation, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
“We are thrilled to win this 4evergreen award for our Recyclability Evaluation Service. This initiative has been a tremendous success with customers in terms of evaluating their packaging’s recyclability in the context of a large-scale and real-world recycling experience,” said Anita Clarke, Marketing Director, DS Smith. “We are committed to helping them futureproof their packaging solutions as they navigate PPWR and EPR, and to supporting them in developing recyclable packaging across an international footprint. We are collaborating and working together to drive the circular economy in packaging solutions,” she concludes.
The 4evergreen awards and its Circularity Success Stories recognises initiatives that contribute to the circularity of fibre-based packaging, with categories including Products Designed for Circularity, Effective Collection and Sorting, and Enabling Enhanced Recycling Processes.
This year’s winners were announced at the organisation’s annual conference event on Wednesday 19th November 2025. The annual gathering for 2025, which was titled, ‘Perfecting Circularity Together: 4evergreen Technical Toolbox for Fibre-Based Packaging’, took place at Sparks in Brussels, and online.
Our Recyclability Evaluation Service (RES) is operated from within DS Smith Kemsley Paper Mill - one of Europe’s largest recycled paper mills with an annual production capacity of around 830,000 tonnes.
