Formwork Panels made of AkyLux® & AkyBoard® Polypropylene Sheets used as Earthquake Resistant Expansion Joints by SiiB France
SiiB Construction firm located in France is featuring its portfolio of ECO Formwork manufactured by DS Smith Plastics France.
When SiiB, a French construction firm, approached DS Smith Plastics in Kaysersberg, France, they were looking for a durable and reusable material from which to create earthquake resistant expansion joints. Earthquake Resistant expansion joints are used in building constructions located on earthquake prone areas. SiiB material requirements for this application included durability, reusability, fiber free, moisture resistant and able to resist the pressure of concrete.
DS Smith Plastics France suggested the use of AkyLux extruded polypropylene sheets for its rigidity, durability and moisture-resistant properties. SiiB selected the proposed AkyLux solution as they met the size (length) and thickness required to create formwork panels. In addition, AkyLux is fiber free and will not leave impurities once it is removed from the concrete.
DS Smith Plastics provide AkyLux polypropylene sheets to SiiB to create the “Sismojoint”. The AkyLux sheets length to 3 from 5 meters and thick enough to be glued together to create a total thickness 40 mm with die-cutting which creates the Sismojoint. By inserting the final Sismojoint in while creating concrete walls, it creates a gap for an earthquake-resistant expansion joint, free of any impurities. The Sismojoint made of polypropylene can be used six times when used with a PE layer film sleeve supplied by SiiB. The sleeve optimizes the extraction of the Sismojoint after the poured concrete settles.
