DS Smith Plastics and Trend KFT Designed and Developed Easy Access Multi-Material Transit Packaging
The multi-material and multi-layer packaging enhanced material handling between manufacturing plants with easy access at the shop floor.
Trend KFT, a plastics products packaging company partnered with DS Smith Plastics to design and develop a multi-material packaging for a leading manufacturer to safely transport sub-assembly components short distances between factories.
The new packaging was required to provide convenient access and easy manoeuvring to assembly line operators on the manufacturing floor. The design was also meant to have segments of tubes to enhance this ability while also creating dividers to help protect the materials in transit.
To safely transport the goods between factories, Trend KFT requested a tubular rack frame while DS Smith Plastics designed and manufactured the interior and exterior cover of the transport packaging.
While the sturdy frame protected the goods, and provided fast and easy material handling through the shop floor the polypropylene-based shelving and dividers prevented the components from shifting during transit and provided easy access to line operators.
The multi-material tubular rack design of this shelved packaging is completely reusable, creating cost savings throughout its useful life. The lightweight of the material makes it easy to move from manufacturing floors to trucks for transport. This reduces the amount of people required to store things on trucks, cutting costs on labor.
