DS Smith Plastics in Hurbanovo Designs Returnable Packaging and Hanging Systems for Leather Goods Products
The multi-material returnable container reduced product waste and improved efficiencies in shop-floor handling and transportation.
At the request of a leader goods customer, DS Smith Plastics, Extruded Products in Hubanovo recently developed a flexible dunnage and hanging system to safely transport products throughout their supply chain. The multi-material container was designed utilising customer’s current metal frames.
Understanding that leather goods can be creased, flattened and damaged if not stored properly, the new solution had to maintain the products hanging and restricted inside the metal frame area. Furthermore, loading and unloading goods from previous returnable was inefficient.
To address material wastage and shop-floor inefficiencies in the handling of leader goods, DS Smith Plastics’ designed a sliding and hanging mechanism inside the container’s metal frame to protect the material while in transit and ease the loading and unloading of goods by shop-floor operators. The sliding mechanism has hooks to keep the goods hanging in-place, and a flexible PVC textile front door to protect the goods while being transported. The other three sides of the container have noise-resistant steel plates and a built-in kicking plate to prevent potential forklift damage. To ventilate out unwanted moisture and keep transported leathers dry, a drainage plate was added on the sides.
Another detail added to the design include metal weights strategically located around the flexible PVC textile door and velcroid border that falls into place faster and securely, while allowing easy access to shop operators.
DS Smith Plastics has years of experience building returnable containers tailored for a variety of industries that addresses shop-floor efficiencies and material wastage.
