The Use of Textile Dunnage to Safely Transport Fragile and Irregular Parts to Final Assembly Lines is Considered by Some Manufacturers an Integral Component of Bulk Packaging

Custom-made dunnage can improve ergonomics and material handling efficiencies of irregular shaped parts throughout manufacturers supply chains.

For years, DS Smith Plastics, Extruded Products has been manufacturing custom-made dunnage to improve the protection and handling efficiencies of fragile and irregular-shaped components stored and transported inside their AkyPak line of bulk containers.

Automotive manufacturers are good example of clients that have benefited of the business’ wit and creativity in developing textile dunnage and bulk containers capable of improving ergonomics, material handling efficiencies and reducing waste by protecting the parts that are transported in bulk throughout complex supply chain environments.

One of the latest dunnage design made for an automotive manufacturer consisted of an L-shaped moulded car-part. To meet customer requirements, DS Smith Plastics group of designers came up with an ergonomic dunnage design that allowed the car parts to be horizontally packed facing one another on a single pocket, as opposed to just one part per pocket. Each divider has two-sections or pockets that holds 2 moulded parts each.

The Extruded Products business segment of DS Smith Plastics is known for the clever design of dunnage separators that deliver material handling efficiencies in automotive assembly lines. Furthermore, these clever dunnage solutions are offered with their line of AkyPak bulk containers, offering additional savings and efficiencies in logistics and transportation.
