The Valencian company DS Smith Tecnicarton successfully designs sustainable packaging for Groupe PSA car batteries

The solution, made of single-use cardboard-wood, eliminates the costs of return, maintenance and cleaning, making it a much more sustainable packaging than its metallic predecessor

The Valencian company Tecnicarton has successfully designed a new innovative high-performance packaging system that allows a returnable metal container to be replaced by a single-use, sustainable cardboard-wood packaging for the batteries of the cars of the French group PSA.

The solution consists of a triple channel cardboard body anchored to a pallet using plastic clips. This body guarantees maximum protection to the battery, allowing its stacking and offering the possibility of printing. The immobilization of the battery in the packaging is carried out by different elements such as metal hooks, wooden blocks or screws, among others, placed according to the reference to be packed.

This solution, which has class 9 approval for dangerous goods, being made of single-use cardboard-wood allows to eliminate the costs of return, maintenance and cleaning, making it a much more sustainable packaging than its metallic predecessor. In addition, due to its lightness, it considerably reduces transport costs with the consequent environmental impact that this entails.

The reduction of costs and optimization of processes throughout the Supply Chain has been one of the priorities in this design, covering all the logistical requirements of the loader and the receiver: dynamic and static stackable packaging with the consequent savings in transport and storage costs. ; specific fixing systems that eliminate auxiliary packaging materials such as strips, film ...; simple battery immobilization systems in the packaging that facilitate the handling of batteries and multi-reference packaging that can be used for several references.

Mixed cardboard-wood packaging

DS Smith Tecnicarton designs mixed packaging of maximum resistance for very bulky and / or heavy products, fully customizable according to the needs of each client with the aim of facilitating the transport and logistics of these industrial products.

Furthermore, as they are available in very small manufacturing batches, they allow a reduction in logistics costs, packaging filling / emptying times and packaging assembly processes.
