DS Smith Tecnicarton's design process

DS Smith Tecnicarton's design process is based on three axes: Verification, Validation and Assessment. And we don't mind sharing this way of working because we are very sure of the value that our team brings to this system

The itinerary of a project begins thanks to the detection of a need in a company. Our technicians, packaging engineers who advise and accompany customers on their needs, collect project information and carry out a preliminary project. It's about putting the engineering department at the service of the company.

DS Smith Tecnicarton's R&D&I department enters the preliminary design stage. It is a highly qualified team with experience in the design of tailor-made packaging and multi-material solutions. Furthermore, this centre is always looking for new materials and new applications, as well as studying new manufacturing processes, so it always brings innovative solutions to the projects that arise.

The phase of materializing the project currently has tools that facilitate its development. The industrial designers of the DS Smith Tecnicarton team have programs for visualizing the packaging behaviour through simulation programs. Thanks to this work, the necessary adjustments and changes can be made and from there, a first prototype can be made.

This prototype undergoes several tests, for which we have the collaboration of technological institutes such as ITENE or AIDIMME. Thanks to these studies, we know better the behaviour that packaging will have in different scenarios: from road transport, to its stacking or the load it is capable of supporting, among others.

After these tests, we can carry out the industrial test and then go on to manufacture.

The success of our system lies in the involvement of each area to obtain the best product. The company also offers a local service, thanks to the strategic location of its 10 plants. In this way, the customer receives a close, agile and efficient service, with the possibility of always being connected to DS Smith Tecnicarton, and also has the support of the entire company.
