DS Smith Announces Expansion in North America

DS Smith North America Packaging and Paper has announced plans to grow its North American presence with a new manufacturing facility in Lebanon, Indiana.

The operation based in Lebanon has been designed to be equipped with the latest in industry-leading technologies, food safety and hygiene accreditations.

"In North America we are seeing a huge demand for sustainable packaging due to the rise in e-commerce. This demand, along with many customers switching from plastic to more sustainable solutions is driving our expansion."

— Jim Morgan, CEO and President of NAPP for DS Smith

The highly-automated plant will be part of the Lebanon Business Park, located off the I-65 Interstate Highway, a leading logistics gateway with railroad access and served by dual interstate exchanges.

DS Smith plans to break ground on the space in November 2018 and open the facility for use by November 2019. The new operation will create more than 150 new jobs in engineering, machinery, production, sales and management positions, and will begin hiring in early 2019.

DS Smith is committed to leading the way in sustainability, by championing sustainable end to end supply chain solutions and using materials responsibly through production processes and beyond.

Across all operations, the company has pledged to manufacture 100 percent reusable or recyclable packaging by 2025, and is continuing to evaluate opportunities and design best practices to incorporate sustainability into the Lebanon, Ind., site.
