DS Smith boxes up awards for best FTSE 250 Annual and Sustainability Reports

DS Smith has won two prestigious awards for having the best Annual and Sustainability Reports amongst FTSE 250 companies.

Adrian Marsh, Chief Financial Officer of DS Smith, said:

“At DS Smith we are very proud to be recognised for both our Annual Report and our Sustainability Reports. These publications reflect our commitment to the highest standards of transparency, professionalism and accountability and our determination to remain a trusted partner for our customers and shareholders”

The prize for Best Annual Report (FTSE 250) was awarded by the IR Society on November 22. The prize is judged by a panel of experts from the fields of accounting, regulation and corporate reporting.

The panel noted that:

DS Smith wins this award for a well explained business model and a clear and easy to understand reporting framework. The judges liked the innovative use of graphics that included a risk heat map and commented positively on the way in which sustainability issues were addressed.

The award for Best Sustainability Report in the FTSE 250 & Public Interest Entities was presented on Nov. 29th at PwC’s Building Public Trust in Corporate Reporting Awards. A panel of 15 judges chose DS Smith as the winner for good quality reporting noting that:

Clear, accessible reporting that sets out DS Smith’s sustainability strategy very well and describes how stakeholder engagement drives the reporting of their material issues. The analysis of the company’s value chain is very comprehensive, particularly its downstream impacts on customers, and the narrative on strategic goals illustrate how the sustainability strategy integrates with its core business model. The focus on upstream impacts includes engaging with suppliers on sourcing sustainable materials, and the company shows its awareness of current development by describing its role in facilitating “the circular economy.

One judge commented, “You get a sense that the linkage between the business strategy and sustainability is strong and working well. The company tells a really clear end-to-end story along its value chain.”

“2016 has already been a very successful year for DS Smith with a number of acquisitions which further enhance our geographic footprint and customer offering. Investments in the latest technologies and facilities, such as the opening of our new state of the art plant in Erlensee, Germany, are also a key part of our strategy to be the leading supplier of sustainable packaging solutions. I would like to thank the panels of judges of both awards for these tremendous honours,” concluded Adrian Marsh.
