DS Smith attends Riciclo Aperto 2017

DS Smith Italia opens the doors of its recycling depots in Milan, Turin and Ancona, and its paper mill in Lucca, for RicicloAperto.

RicicloAperto – which means “Open Recycling” in Italian – is an annual event run by COMIECO, the Italian paper and cardboard recycling consortium. They work with the Italian paper, paper reprocessing and printing industries for an event in which businesses open their doors to people who are interested in the paper and recycling industry.

Guided tours will allow visitors – mainly primary and secondary school students – to discover the secrets of the recycling industry in a safe environment, and to understand the value of their daily efforts in segregating waste.

DS Smith has participated in the RicicloAperto project since 2008 and this year has opened the doors of 4 sites mill to welcome around 500 local schoolchildren: Torino depot (27th and 28th April), Milano depot (28th April), Ancona depot (28th April) and Lucca Paper Mill (26th, 27th and 28th April).

Giovanni Malloggi, Managing Director of DS Smith Recycling Italy, commented:

RicicloAperto is an event we are always keen to participate in. The promotion of waste segregation and recycling from childhood is crucial, because it's the only way to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

Massimo Santolini, Managing Director of Lucca Paper mill, added:

We have been participating into this initiative for several years to enhance the level of knowledge about the paper and cardboard recycling industry, and the importance of quality and sustainability in every step of the way, in line with DS Smith’s strategy.

The event is sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment, the confederation of Italian city councils, and Italy’s main paper and recycling trade bodies (Fise Assoambiente, Fise Unire, Unirima and Utilitalia).
