SCA Packaging opens public voting for their Design Challenge

17th February 2009, Brussels – As of today, visitors to SCA Packaging’s website will be able to cast their vote for one of the 90 packaging designs that have been submitted into the company’s ‘Design Challenge ‘08’.

On this first edition of the competition, design students from across Europe were asked to create a total packaging concept to sell chocolate in-store. “We chose chocolate because almost everyone loves it and eats it regularly,” says Patrick Verhelst, Marketing Director at SCA Packaging Europe.

“In addition, chocolate poses a real challenge for packaging designers: food safety standards play a very important role and the product is fragile, so it has to be well protected. It’s an impulse purchase but can be at the same time a quick snack or an indulging luxury. It’s sold everywhere and comes in various forms and shapes which all play a role in appealing to the consumer” he adds.

The winner of the ‘Public Prize’, along with the winner of the ‘Customer Cup’ award (voting restricted to customers) and the overall winner of the Design Challenge selected by the jury will be announced on March 23rd during SCA’s ‘Packaging Experience ‘09’ event in Brussels.

With the theme ‘Seduce shoppers in-store’, the Packaging Experience ‘09 will include keynote presentations by Jens Nordfält from the Stockholm School of Economics and Gino Van Ossel, Professor of Retailing at the Vlerick Management School, as well as a number of interactive ‘experience sessions’.
