Kemsley Paper Mill audit successes

In May 2017, Kemsley Mill successfully passed the external audits for their Quality, Environmental, and Energy Management systems, retaining its ISO9001, ISO 14001 and ISO50001 accreditations.

The auditor was particularly impressed with the rollout of Our Paper Operating Model, calling it a very positive step forward to drive improvements all around the mill. A particular success lay in the description of our employees as “competent and enthusiastic”.

Our Paper Operating Model launched in 2016. Based on the LEAN culture, Our Paper Operating Model (OPOM) defines how our teams work in our paper mills. Its 8 Key Principles are:

Our People

1. Health & Safety of all colleagues is the Number One business priority.

2. We manage pro-actively with a sustainable view.

3. We “go and see” to understand what’s happening.

Our Customers

4. We solve problems at the root cause.

5. We build quality into our processes to avoid creating or passing on defects.

Our Continuous Improvement

6. We use standardised work as our foundation for continuous improvement and employee empowerment.

7. We use visual management to expose problems, inspire improvement and understand situations at a glance.

8. We spread our best practice and share our ideas inside our Group.

After one year of OPOM, it’s great to see that there has already been a tangible positive impact on our mills.
