Lucca Mill supports the local community

For the start of the school year, Lucca Mill offered 10 computers to Barga Middle School in Italy.

Lucca Mill recently moved to a new Windows version and consequently had some of their computers became superfluous for business needs. Specifically, five fully functional Lenovo T400 laptops and five Lenovo M58 desktops equipped with Windows 7 and large monitors were identified as no longer needed.

Through a contact employed in local education, the mill learned that Barga Middle School’s computer science lab was in real need of equipment: many of their computers were outdated, moreover during a recent burglary all newer computers have been stolen from the lab. That made it difficult for students to receive much-needed education in IT. So rather than storing their 10 superfluous computers in some stockroom, Lucca Mill identified a great opportunity to help the local community.

An IT Specialist from the mill personally delivered, installed and successfully booted the 10 computers, just in time for the start of the new school year. Students arrived to school the following Monday to find a fully equipped computer lab at their disposal. This action by DS Smith staff is a great example of how a company can positively impact the local community even with very little financial cost.
