PackRight Centre expansion puts better packaging within your grasp across Europe

DS Smith’s expanding network of PackRight Centres is giving customers across Europe the opportunity to collaborate with packaging experts to design and build new or improved packaging solutions.

2016 has been a year of incredible growth for the DS Smith PackRight Centre concept. Beginning with two centres opened in the UK this spring, additional centres have been opened in Slovenia, Germany, Czech Republic, and Romania to bring the network up to a total of 24 locations. That’s 24 places where everyday innovation in packaging comes to life to help DS Smith customers lower costs, increase sales and manage risks. During the next few months you will see additional PackRight Centres opening in our new flagship site in Erlensee, Germany as well as in the Netherlands, Bulgaria and France.

The objective is to reach almost 50 PackRight Centres across Europe in the next couple of years providing pan-European coverage to serve our customers and other stakeholders with a close-to-home opportunity to be more hands on with the packaging process, tapping into DS Smith’s extensive industry insight and accessing the latest packaging industry thinking.

At the centres DS Smith’s packaging strategists come together with customers, including team members from marketing, branding, technology and research and development departments, to brainstorm ideas and come up with solutions that address their packaging and supply chain challenges. During the course of a workshop at a PackRight Centre, customers start by putting their packaging requirements into context by learning about broader trends within the packaging industry and sharing their vision, ideas and concerns on everything from the branding and the look of the packaging, to transportation in the supply chain and recyclability. Through the DS Smith PackRight Review, we map out the dozens of touchpoints that every package experiences in its lifetime, and each one of those touchpoints is an opportunity to improve package performance – that could mean lots of small changes to your packaging with an impressive cumulative impact on your bottom line.

Working together, we undertake a series of hands-on workshops to explore solutions in the PackRight Centre. Using a range of technologies from sketching boards to visualisation software, our visitors see their design aspirations becoming a reality. At the end of the day, our visitors take away digitally printed prototypes, giving them a tangible product that could be brought to market. Crucially, because the prototypes are developed by a team from different departments, they reflect the needs of all departments and ensure that everyone buys into the concept and understands how an efficient, competitive packaging solution will ultimately help businesses achieve increased sales, reduce costs and manage risk.
