Winners of SCA Packaging’s Design Challenge announced

24 March 2009, Brussels – “Disco Choco” by French design student Natacha Lesty from the Ecole Internationale de Design became the overall winner of the first edition of SCA Packaging’s ‘Design Challenge’.

Jury members chose “Disco Choco” for its iconic features, as well as for its optimised use of a single material (corrugated board), which facilitates recycling.

Spanish design student Míriam Liébana Yeste took on the Customer Cup category with her ‘Sweet Notes’ concept. This concept focuses on the link between chocolate and human relations; the consumer can write a small message on the packaging, depending on the mood they are in.

The Public Vote category went to Belgian textile design student Fien Embrechts and her concept ‘Soft Chocolate Skin’. This pack is made of needle-punch polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable, renewable felt-like material that provides a revolutionary way of protecting chocolate.

The Design Challenge award ceremony took place during the SCA Packaging Experience event in Brussels. Over 150 delegates from FMCG companies gathered around the theme ‘Seduce shoppers in-store’ at the iconic “Entrepot Royal” building in the Tour & Taxis complex.

In addition to a 3,000 EUR prize, the overall winner of this first edition of the Design Challenge will get the chance to do an internship at SCA Packaging’s Innovation Centre, also located in Tour & Taxis.
