DS Smith teams up with Breast Cancer Care for a unique fundraising event, called Wales on Wheels

On 6th and 7th March 2019 almost 50 employees from DS Smith Recycling Head Office in Caerphilly took part in a static cycle race in aid of Breast Cancer Care.

The charity, Breast Cancer Care, offers care, support and information to everyone affected by breast cancer, and so events like Wales on Wheels help to keep the invaluable services free. With 62,000 people diagnosed each year – a number which is increasing – there has never been a greater need for this type of support.

Volunteers from our Recycling Head Office cycled in 15-minute slots over the 2 days to compete against other companies in a virtual route around Wales. DS Smith employees cycled 539km in total and raised an incredible £2,000 for Breast Cancer Care. This was achieved by sponsorship, a raffle which included prizes from the Cardiff Blues rugby team, a bake sale, dress-down collections, and selling charity wristbands and pin badges.

Mathew Prosser, UK Managing Director said:

We’ve had an amazing two days. It really was a unique experience and something that we are very proud of. Everyone got involved - whether it be by cycling or even by providing moral support. It was a great example of team work in aid of a fantastic cause.
