Our data

The data of our weight dispatched from our depots are fetched on a daily basis. So the latest data we can show each day, is the data from the day before.

Assumptions

There are some assumptions made in order to be able to present our data in this enternaining and interactive way. You may read more about our assumptions and the data used.

Calculations

  • Number of trees = Tonnes recycled * 0.9
  • Number of Royal Albert Halls filled = Number of trees saved/ Number of seats in Royal Albert Hall
  • Tonnes of CO2 saved by diverting waste from landfill = Tonnes recycled * 0.459
  • Mof landfill saved = Tonnes recycled
  • Number of Olympic size swimming pools filled = Cubic meters of landfill saved / Area of the Olympic size swimming pool
  • Number of trips from London to Pisa = Avoided CO2 emissions from recycling/ CO2 emissions of a Vespa from London to Pisa.

Sustainability

At DS Smith we are building a better business, focused on delivering sustainable value to all of our stakeholders. To us, truly sustainable value is found when balancing the needs of Our Business, Our Environment and Our People.

Our core business is the design and manufacture of recycled packaging for consumer goods. We recognise that our operations have both direct and indirect impacts. Those are upstream through our sourcing activities and downstream through the ways our customers use and dispose of our products.

Demonstrating our commitment to operating ever more responsibly and delighting our customers, we make annual submissions to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), EcoVadis and are SEDEX AB members.

DS Smith is currently focusing on three core sustainability targets;

  • To reduce CO2e emissions per tonne of production by 30% by 2030
  • To achieve 100% FSC certification for in-scope sites in 2018
  • For 100% of in-scope sites to be have completed the SEDEX self-assessment questionnaire
