A Perfect Sealable and Reusable Tray to Store Biscuits for Desobry®
Desobry, a biscuit manufacturer, needed a tray to improve their baking process. To meet their high expectations, Desobry chose DS Smith, Plastics’ Injection Moulded Products (INJ) to develop a tray that met all their requirements.
Because the biscuits of the assortments are not all baked at the same time, Desobry was looking for a solution to store the baked biscuits in a perfectly dry environment, until the moment they would be manually, together with the other biscuits, placed in their final packaging. In the past they used metal boxes that were not stackable and were difficult to clean. This resulted in logistical problems and created a huge amount of waste.
Plastics, INJ developed a special tray for Desobry that was stackable and allowed the bottom of each tray to serve as a sealable lid for the tray underneath. This system ensures that no air can get to the biscuits and risk of food contamination is minimized. Depending on the porosity of the biscuits they chose 0, 2, 7 or 9 divider trays that are perfectly inter-stackable.
The tray, produced from a high quality plastic material, can be easily cleaned and has drainage holes that allow the tray to dry quickly after cleaning. A handle makes the tray more ergonomic and user-friendly.
The investments in a special mould were cost-efficient, both in the field of logistics and sustainability, as in the reduction of the contamination risks. The optimised production process adds to continuously guarantee a high quality of the biscuits. Plastics, INJ biscuit trays are sustainable and recyclable.
