Cardboard furniture from Cubiqz provides a strong incentive in the sale of empty properties.

A house that is standing empty is more difficult to sell than a complete and tastefully furnished home. Even the smell of a freshly baked apple tart doesn't change this.
Fortunately, cardboard furniture from Cubiqz does. With it, you can turn an empty room into a realistic kitchen, office, living room or bedroom, quickly and easily.

Cubiqz is the brainchild of Cindy van Dijk. As a stylist, she has focused for a long time on the layout of empty real estate and as a result knows better than anyone else what is available on the housing market. "It all began with the layout, presentation and sale of show homes", says Van Dijk. "You do that mainly to give people an idea of the available space and of course to create atmosphere. Floor covering and a few pieces of furniture are easy to place, but a real kitchen is too expensive to install. A stark, empty space also won't sell, so we had the idea of installing a cardboard kitchen. Naturally, that looked a little more attractive. Because it worked well in practice, other carton products were quick to follow, such as sofas, beds and chairs."

How did you get from cardboard to Cubiqz?

"I actually took the step to begin in the middle of the crisis. Because the property market was stagnant, there were empty properties everywhere, both new and existing. This meant sales opportunities. From my practical experience and my own ideas about layout I began to design a modular layout concept out of cardboard. And because I also think in terms of 'blocks' I came up with the brand name Cubiqz."

What makes Cubiqz so unique in terms of presentation?

"The layout concept consists of cardboard furniture, fitted with a unique cover with a photo print or a real fabric cover. In doing so, we achieve a lifelike representation of a room interior and the experience within a room is greatly enhanced. Thanks to the collaborative capacity of DS Smith, we can now make practically anything within the Cubiqz concept. Whether it's the visualisation of offices, kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms, with Cubiqz, cardboard is proving itself to be a powerful and smart sales tool."

You feel at home with DS Smith I think...

Yes, the packaging specialists at DS Smith provided collaborative thinking and cooperated closely to complete the puzzle. It all looks so simple: a few cardboard boxes with a cover over them and that's it. But naturally it doesn't look like that. Together we thought about sustainabilty, costs, fitting and of course, transport. Although the cardboard furniture is for single use, it must be able to withstand a few knocks. The concept is also designed so that with 10 different box formats, we can create every item of furniture. So believe me, for anything to do with cardboard, DS Smith is the place to go."

And who can come to you for Cubiqz?

"My customers are project developers, agents, stylists and housing corporations but also increasingly private individuals who wish to present their (empty) property better. What is also quite nice is that we have a unique concept with pattern rights for the whole of Europe.
We began in the Netherlands but we now supply Cubiqz beyond our borders to Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Spain. Our concept is therefore literally without borders."
