DS Smith sponsors Cartasia 2016

The Paper & Cardboard Biennial contemporary art festival in Lucca is happening in Italy from July 31st to September 10th. Lucca, Italy is Europe’s paper production capital.

It plays host to the 8th edition of the contemporary art biennial that offers artists from all over the world the opportunity to express themselves through one of the oldest tool of communication: paper & cardboard. DS Smith will supply paper, cardboard and will give design support to the more than 400 artists involved.

The theme for this year’s celebration is, ‘Borders and Perspectives’.

The exhibition will be divided in 4 main areas:

• Art: 400 artists from all over the world will create 8 giant outdoor works of art and 70 pieces of art to be displayed indoors.
• Design: 3 full days dedicated to design where universities, companies and fab lab will share their experiences.
• Talks: More than 40 external guests, from different working environments, will discuss the arts, technology, economics, anthropology and communication in 20 minute speeches inspired by TED talks.
• Fun: creative labs and games organised for children where they will use paper and cardboard to create their own little works of art.
