Creative collaboration between HYGENIQ and DS Smith guarantees delivery of organic alcohol hand gels for healthcare institutions

Almelo, May 12, 2020 – When a large number of healthcare institutions depend on your products to ensure a safe workplace, strong partnerships are crucial. Within one day DS Smith was able to supply new packaging that fit the dimension of new bottles of hand sensitizer to enable HYGENIQ to keep up with the extremely high demand without business disruption.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for alcohol hand sanitizers has exploded, with the result that sprays and gels for hand hygiene are running out everywhere. All producers work hard to get products out the door to meet the demand. This is where the quick reaction and organizational talents of HYGENIQ, a producer of ecological cleaning products in Enschede, Netherlands, and DS Smith, producer of bespoke cardboard packaging, achieved quick results to help meet the surging demand.

Jack Kok, Logistics Coordinator at HYGENIQ explains: “We are currently receiving a lot of urgent requests. Actually, we hardly have time for anything else. Our customers supply hospitals, care institutions and emergency services who are most urgently in need of our hygiene products.”

As new orders came rushing in HYGENIQ faced a critical issue as they were running out of their old bottles. Not being able to deliver was actually not an option. That same afternoon, DS Smith Almelo was called in for help and from then on things went fast.

The following morning at 6 a.m. new sample bottles were collected and taken to the DS Smith design studio. The correct box dimensions were determined, qualities determined, production planned, corrugated cardboard cut to size, cardboard boxes produced and delivered the same day to HYGENIQ.

Jack continues: “We were able to pack the bio-alcohol gel immediately and deliver it early the next morning. Only if we all work together can we successfully deal with this crisis.

Gilian Schuurhuis, Sales Manager DS Smith: “For decades, the Almelo branch in the region has been known as the fast box makers. We have a separate stock of cardboard and special machines. These are located in a separate hall that is equipped to produce small numbers and rush orders. We've had a hare greyhound as a mascot for years. It is not without reason.”
