SCA Packaging De Hoop celebrates 350 years

SCA Packaging De Hoop in Eerbeek, The Netherlands, is the oldest mill within SCA Packaging. “Living, producing and recreating in a sustainable community”

All retired employees, school children, employees, business counterparts and the community of Eerbeek are to take part in an extensive festivity program around the week that starts today with nearly 400 retired employees. Everything is ready next to the mill: the venue has been equipped with several tents and a circus to celebrate a lot!

Tomorrow, some 150 international guests and 2 key note speakers, Mr. Jan Åström, CEO of SCA, and Mr. Petri Vasara, Dr. Tech Principal

Poyry Forest Industry Consulting Oy, will take part in a conference in the VIP-business day around the theme: “350 years SCA PACKAGING DE HOOP in the village of Eerbeek - Living, producing and recreating in a sustainable community”.

The SCA location in Eerbeek, consisting of a containerboard paper mill, a corrugated box plant and a recycling organisation is considered a strategic site for SCA and the SCA Packaging business group. The 3 business activities together achieve good synergies on themes of sustainability around people, products, environment, raw materials and energy.

Henk Lingbeek, Managing Director SCA Packaging De Hoop says “We manage operations on leadership principles of continuous improvement, with focus on customer demands, productivity and costs, in combination with investments in the development plus well being of employees. De Hoop reaches substantial achievements on sustainable themes, whereby the impact of the manufacturing site on the environment is reduced considerably in the past decades”.

Together with the authorities, De Hoop executes programmes to reduce emissions. “The impact of our operations on the community of Eerbeek is lowered via substantial investments to reduce noise, odour and vibrations. The site produces its own energy in a high-tech co-generation plant, contributing to lower energy/fossil fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions”, explains Henk.

The CHP (Combined Heat Power) plant was awarded with a world class nomination in a world wide energy benchmark study from the Royal Dutch Paper & Board association carried out by the Finnish Jaakko Poyry Consulting

In line with SCA sustainability policies, the company has invested in the last years, in the recycled fibre lines: via separating plus drying techniques rejects are upgraded into secondary/bio fuels.

The objective of SCA is to keep growing the business on this site in the future, being committed to take our responsibility to make living, producing, and recreating possible in a sustainable way in the heart of the community of Eerbeek.

We congratulate all employees with the 350 years anniversary and wish them all success in the future to continue their journey to retain Eerbeek as a strategic site for SCA.
