DS Smith help Flattered slip into more eco-friendly packaging

Flattered is a Swedish shoe retailer that specialises in classic flat shoes made from the finest materials. A new shoe, made from leather that is organic and tanned using vegetables by Tärnsjö Garveri, set a new bar for sustainability and needed packaging to match. They approached DS Smith’s experts to make packaging that exemplified Flattered’s brand values.

As Flattered do business online and through retailers internationally, the packaging had to be ideal for both situations.

Challenge:  stylish and eco-friendly packaging

Develop an eco-friendly packaging with the clean and classic style for which Flattered is known. Performance needed to be calibrated for the e-commerce market but also work effectively in store.

Approach: challenging the brief

The client first asked for traditional shoe packaging with a top and a bottom. Our PackRight Centre in Järfälla, Sweden thought that such a unique shoe deserved a unique packaging. They proposed an alternative solution consisting of a tray and sleeve with foliated logo. Flattered loved the idea! The packaging solution was made in a specially choosen board grade in order to get the best looking surface for the foliated logo on the top and to create an organic feel about it.
