DS Smith’s Crumlin site honoured with the first Green Space Business Award

The prestigious Green Flag Awards returned this year after a nine-year hiatus with an exciting new addition, the Green Space Business Award, a scheme developed under the DS Smith and Keep Britain Tidy partnership.

As official sponsor of the Green Flag Awards Scheme, representatives from DS Smith attended the four day awards tour which took place in Nottingham, Sheffield, Walthamstow and Cheltenham. At each event awards were presented to deserving community groups, and in total a record breaking 1,686 parks and green spaces achieved green flags.

The tour also provided the perfect platform to launch the Green Space Business Awards. The new scheme will aim to reward and recognise DS Smith sites and external businesses that demonstrate a commitment to improving parks and green spaces through volunteering and fundraising.

The DS Smith site, Crumlin, was one of two sites to receive the first Green Space Business Award. Neil Walding, Plant Manager and Michael Kingsbury, Customer Service Manager, accepted the award on the final day of the tour in Cheltenham. Neil commented: ”I was extremely honoured to accept the Green Space Business Award on behalf of the Crumlin site. This initiative is a great way to demonstrate how the business sector can work together to address environmental issues and make a real difference to the quality of life of our employees.”

The DS Smith Crumlin site was recognized for transforming the outside area into a nature friendly environment by introducing new outdoor furniture, a pathway through a wooded area leading to the car park, and an allotment for dedicated employees to grow their own produce.
