Family fundraising event to support Louth hospice

Cycling fundraisers at DS Smith Louth are holding their annual family charity bike ride in aid of Louth & District Hospice.

The event is being held at the Brackenborough Arms Hotel on Sunday September 13, and cyclists are invited to join the DS Smith pack as they make their way through the Lincolnshire Wolds.

To make the day suitable for all members of the family there are two courses to choose from, with a ten mile course for beginners and a 30 mile course for more experienced cyclists.

The event is in its third year, with more than £3000 raised and in excess of 250 riders participating over the past two years.

The Louth site has also recently been awarded a Healthy Heart Mark Bronze by national charity Heart Research UK for supporting healthy lifestyle habits among its employees.

Working with national charity Heart Research UK, the global supply cycle specialist started by offering healthy heart checks at its 31 sites – from Livingston to Launceston - providing workers with the opportunity to have their blood pressure, cholesterol levels, BMI and waist measurements checked and ask questions about their lifestyle habits.

The Louth site has been recognised for going one step further and delivering heart healthy initiatives including offering advice on quitting smoking, encouraging people to take exercise, and creating bike clubs for staff to join.

Mike Nicholas, managing director at DS Smith Louth said: “We are looking forward to another successful fundraising event this year, as we all recognise the important role the hospice plays in the community.

“What really makes the event a success is the participation of friends and family and people within the wider community who all rally together to raise money for a worthy, local cause.”

People interested in joining the ride can pre-register by contacting the DS Smith Louth team, or register by 10.00am on the day of the event. The 30 mile ride will be pushing off at 10.30am followed by the ten mile ride setting off at 11.00am.

Minimum entry fee is £10, with under-16s going free. All the money raised goes directly to the Louth & District Hospice, which is located next door to the DS Smith Louth site.
