OPK Certificate Renewed for DS Smith Recycling Netherlands

DS Smith Recycling is pleased to announce that its Netherlands region has renewed its three-year OPK Certificate, receiving excellent feedback during the audit.

A valid OPK licence is required for membership of the Federatie Nederlandse Oudpapier Industrie (FNOI), the industry body that regulates paper recycling, with which most Dutch waste paper companies are affiliated. It’s also necessary for any business that wants to work with government agencies and municipalities.

Certification requires investigation of some 100 areas of a company’s operations and governance, including:

  • Health and safety processes and performance
  • Legal insurance
  • Compliance with legislation for environmental management and export
  • Strong performance in documentation and registration
  • The levels of training received by employees

As a consequence of these detailed inquiries, an OPK certificate is seen as a hallmark of safe, sustainable, and responsible business.

The audit for the Netherlands business took place at the head office in Eerbeek, as well as our new production site in Babberich, where auditors examined the site’s rules, employees’ personal protective equipment (PPE), our baler and conveyors’ safety systems, and other aspects of the site’s EQHS procedures, finding no faults, and making only one recommendation.

DS Smith is pleased to continue its strong performance in EQHS, and to receive such strong responses to its commitments to sustainability and compliance.

I would like to receive communications news and updates on DS Smith Plc products and services.
