DS Smith supports Keep Wales Tidy at the Tidy Wales Awards
On November 20th 2017, DS Smith supported Keep Wales Tidy at the charity’s annual Tidy Wales Awards.
The Awards took place in Cardiff’s iconic Pierhead Building, and celebrated the contributions made by volunteers and organisations across Wales who go the extra mile to promote sustainability initiatives. The event marked the first ministerial appearance of new Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Environment, Hannah Blythyn AM.
DS Smith Recycling has close links with Keep Wales Tidy. The Recycling Division’s UK MD, Mathew Prosser, is a Trustee of the charity, and Tom Shanklin, former international rugby player and Commercial Manager at DS Smith Recycling, is Keep Wales Tidy’s Ambassador.
DS Smith sponsored the ‘Green Key’ category, which was awarded to businesses in the tourism sector who have made outstanding commitments to sustainability. A panel from the Recycling Division chose the winner, ‘Top of the Woods’, an eco-friendly camping site in the west of Wales which has planted 1,500 trees this year to decrease its carbon footprint. Tim Price, DS Smith Recycling and Paper’s Marketing Director, awarded the winner their trophy, and the runners-up their certificate.
The Green Key accreditation sets the national standard for environmental tourism in Wales.
Tim Price, Marketing Director at DS Smith Recycling & Paper, commented: “As an international organisation proudly headquartered in Wales, we’re delighted to support Keep Wales Tidy and the Tidy Wales Awards.
“With tourism so important to the Welsh economy, we are excited to sponsor this year’s Green Key category. The accolade recognises establishments which have made sure that their businesses are environmentally friendly, and who have gone on to promote their sustainability efforts to their employees, visitors, and guests – engaging all in a more sustainable approach to leisure and tourism.”
