DS Smith Plastics USA Gives back to their Troops

The Employee Committees representing DS Smith Plastics’, joined forces to support the USA Military Troops by collecting items for ‘Operation Care Package’ (OCP), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the men and women in the USA military. The Employee committee group from DS Smith promoted the cause during the month of March by encouraging other colleagues to donate various items that were to be shipped to USA Military troops. Donations were collected during the month of March and shipped to OCP in early April.

Operation Care Package is a volunteer public charity, dedicated to ‘leaving no Hero serving the USA Nation to be forgotten’.  OCP has as its main goal, to support Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen through care packages and letters of encouragement. "Some of the soldiers don't receive anything in the mail, and they exist on little supplies," said Debbie Smother, one of the founders of the group that was formed in March 2003. "I don't think any of them should go without something from mail call."

Donations were collected at all DS Smith Plastics locations in the USA located in Lester Prairie and Winsted, Minnesota; Romeoville and Bolingbrook, Illinois; Union City, California; and Indianapolis, Indiana. In April, all site collections were consolidated and sent to the headquarters of Operations Care Package who will be shipping all goods to the troops.

The amount of donations collected exceeded 1,000 items ranging from paper, pens, toiletries, games, puzzles, batteries, non-perishable food items, laundry soaps, t-shirts, socks and more.

This is the first year that DS Smith Plastics USA has participated in this worthy cause. Due to the success and support received from all parts of the organization, the DS Smith Employee Committee has committed to continue being proud supporters of Operation Care Package and the USA military. OCP was extremely grateful for our donations as this is their low period with receiving items for our Troops. We will again hold this event at the same time next year.
