DS Smith saves Christmas for confectioner

Wawel S.A. traces its history back to the 19th century and opened its first company store in the beautiful historic main market square in Krakow, Poland. Since then it has grown to be one of Poland’s largest and most-loved confectioners specialising in traditional, high quality sweets and chocolates. Christmas is a particularly crucial time for the confectioner and they turned to DS Smith for support.

Challenge

Wawel need to take delivery of 300 pallets of packaging with a Christmas-themed overprint in just 3 weeks to ensure goods were on shelves in time for the seasonal rush.

Our Approach

To delight our customer and fulfil their quick turnaround time we used our strategic reserve of corrugated cardboard. We then optimised the packaging design so that it would work with our onhand material while still meeting the customer’s needs. Crucially, this kept waste below 1% and ensured that the customer received very fast service and a very good price.

Results

• Lower costs thanks to our design optimisation to reduce waste
• More sales with a very rapid delivery of the seasonally themed packaging
• More sales as the quick turnaround of the packaging meant products could be distributed as expected and in-store availability never became an issue.
