DS Smith wins awards at the “Oscar de l'Emballage” 2016 (French Packaging Awards)

DS Smith won the award in the Materials Innovation Packaging category at the “Oscar de l'Emballage” (French Packaging Awards) with its Retail-Ready-Packaging Sales Front ®. The Nespresso e-commerce pack was also nominated in the Materials, Corrugated cardboard category.

Event of reference for innovation of our industry, the “Oscar de l'Emballage” is organized each year by Infopro Digital, the publisher of Emballages Magazine. This 61st edition, presented by Henri Saporta, editor-in-chief of Emballages Magazine, took place in front of an assembly of 330 people gathered in Paris, at the hotel Elysées Biarritz on November 14th.

About 100 cases have been examined by the expert assessment of a jury of packaging and conditioning professionals. The Nespresso e-commerce pack is one of the 47 products nominated, among which 21 have been awarded, such as Sales Front ®.

The fruit of more than two years of development and tests, Sales Front® includes an elastic strip that pushes the articles towards the front of the shelf each time a product is taken out. The Retail-Ready-Packaging gets around the « black hole effect » produced by the absence of the products on the front of the shelf.

Adapted to primary packaging such as folding cartons, trays, flow wraps or other cylindrical products, Sales Front® is particularly recommended for value-added products. It doesn’t need any accessorising to be placed on the shelf and gives the possibility of multiple facings. It can be used with hand-operated or mechanised packaging systems.

The Nespresso e-commerce pack rises to one of the main challenges of online sales:  conveying the brand image while guaranteeing a maximal protection to the products during transport.

With its innovative design, the pack reflects the premium quality of Nespresso while protecting the coffee capsules during their trip to the consumer. Indeed, thanks to a concept which optimizes to suit different formats with adapted inserts and a new ergonomics that makes co-packing easier. The pack also reduces the returns from the customers with its system of protection through a locking strip. The pack thus meets our customer promise to reduce the cost

Its easy opening and its re-locking system guarantee the consumer an easier return of the parcel and offers the possibility of a second life for the packaging after opening. Eco-conceived, the pack is 100% corrugated board-made and is entirely recyclable.
