PackRight Academy Workshop „Hazardous goods“

35 attendees from BASF, Alfred Kärcher, Sika Deutschland, Bayer CropScience and many other companies participated in the two-day hazardous goods workshop organised by DS Smith in Mannheim, to deepen their knowledge about hazardous goods packaging.

The first day began with a short introductory workshop. The speakers went through the A to Z of basics and regulations for hazardous goods packaging.

How and why hazardous goods are transported in limited quantities (LQ) and what needs to be considered was explained as well as the topic of the type testing of packaging. During dinner, the participants took advantage of the opportunity to exchange ideas and to network.

On the second workshop day, the speakers informed the participants about the approval of packaging, type series and modification options. With demonstrative tests, the relevance of the technical values of paper and cardboard were showed and the participants had the opportunity to get an even better idea of the topic with the help of samples.

Then, the experts reported on their professional experience with the challenges of hazardous goods packaging in daily use and gave the participants valuable insights and tips. The practical reports thematically rounded off the event and formed the end of the theoretical part.

After lunch, the group continued in the DS Smith plant in Mannheim for a plant tour and subsequent tour of DS Smith's own hazardous goods testing centre, approved by BAM (the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing). Here, theoretical knowledge was enhanced by practical experience, such as the live demonstration of a drop test.

Positive feedback from particpants

The participant‘s feedback on the workshop was very positive and the recommendation rate was 100 per cent!

Matthias Eberbach, Development Packaging, Alfred Kärcher GmbH & Co. KG:

"The hazardous goods workshop from DS Smith was a completely successful event. The location was very well chosen, the speakers gave very good input with direct links to daily business practice. For my own business practice, the seminar was very important: Hazardous goods play a minor role in our company and that makes it especially important to be well informed and have competent contacts as DS Smith.”

Thanh-Tam Schott, Bayer CropScience Aktiengesellschaft:

"I participated in the hazardous goods workshop and found it very useful for people who work with packaging material. The framework program was very pleasant. The contents were explained in a very good and understandable way. The speakers answered and explained all questions very well. I especially loved that, in spite of the complexity of the topic, the workshop was very varied and interesting due to the practical examples. The plant tour was the cherry on the cake. The organization was also great! I would definitely recommend this seminar.“
